My Mission
Through 505 Anglers LLC, my mission is to connect hearts and hands with the waters that shape New Mexico. As A private instructor and Aquatic Educator contracted by the New Mexico Department of Game & Fish, I strive to create meaningful, hands-on fishing experiences that blend learning, conservation, and connection.
I don’t just teach people how to fish, I help them rediscover the sense of peace that only nature provides. Whether guiding a first-time angler, teaching a family on their first trip together, or leading a classroom at the water’s edge, I pour my passion into every cast and conversation.
To me, fishing is more than a skill—it’s a bridge between people and place, between generations, and between who we are and who we’re meant to be when we reconnect with the outdoors.

My comprehensive beginner's package covers a range of fundamental topics, ensuring a well-rounded understanding of fishing. These include knot tying, optimal hook and weight placement, insights into baits and lures, casting techniques, sustainable fishing practices, and familiarity with important local rules and regulations.
Furthering your tailored experience, I offer the flexibility to incorporate additional topics based on your specific needs. These optional inclusions encompass diverse subjects such as various types of baits and lures, delving into the water column, Ice Fishing, mastering lure retrieval techniques, advanced knot tying, understanding different line types, proficient reel assembly and lining, and even a catch-and-cook session.

About 505 Anglers LLC
My name is Mathew “Matty” Gonzales, and 505 Anglers LLC is the result of a lifelong passion for fishing, teaching, and connecting people to the outdoors. Growing up in New Mexico, I learned early on that our rivers, lakes, and acequias are more than water — they’re stories, memories, and traditions passed down through generations. That understanding drives everything I do today.
As an Aquatic Educator contracted by the New Mexico Department of Game & Fish, I’ve had the privilege of teaching thousands of youth and adults the art and ethics of fishing across our state. But beyond the clinics and instruction, what fulfills me most is seeing the spark in someone’s eyes when they catch their first fish, learn something new about their environment, or feel that quiet peace only nature can offer.
505 Anglers LLC was built to make those moments possible — whether through large community clinics, private lessons, or family outings tailored to different skill levels and goals. Every experience is guided by patience, passion, and purpose, helping others gain confidence on the water while learning how to care for it.
For me, it’s not just about catching fish. It’s about helping others discover their place in the natural world — and showing that every cast, every ripple, and every connection matters.
